- The 20th Seoul Fashion Week has grandeur opening on 26th of March and will be showing till the 1st of April. During this 7 days event, Korea’s top designers will unveil their designs at SETEC and KRING. It is hosted by Seoul Metropolitan Government and organized by Seoul Fashion Week Committee, Seoul Business Agency(Seoul Fashion Center), supported by Cheil Industries, sponsored by Lotte Department Store, ELLE, Cledbel, AMOS Professional, Nature’s Secret, Christian Chauveau and SNT WINE. The chosen designers will be sent to FATEX, the fashion sourcing trade fair in Paris this year. More people are wearing glasses these days and eyewears are becoming a fashion item. You do not need any fancy accessories to express yourself if you are wearing glasses. It is not only trendy but also easy to find and purchase. Eyeglasses are frames bearing lenses worn for vision correction and eye protection, but they are becoming a tool of self-expression. People choose particular glasses, which look good on them. Some people wear them to be fashionable even though they have good eye power. Specially, handcrafted eyeglass frames are unique; therefore, many people are looking for those pairs. Starting a hand made glasses business in Korea might not guarantee a huge success; however, if I create unique eyewear line with a hint of Asian culture and the artisan sprit, glasses produced in Korea would have potential in the international market.

These days, design does not just represent a part of an art form, but it contains a key to solve problems of a society's culture and economy. Korea is one of the countries that are in the middle of the changes. Also, Seoul is in the middle of the changes for design, and it is planning to have a 2010 Design Capital Seoul festival. As a student who studies design in Seoul, it is not an option to challenge new opportunities. I am sure that through this internship opportunity I can gain special experiences. This opportunity will offer great chances to gain the needs to become a professional designer by working in a global market. In this, I will also gain practical experiences. I would like to become one of the members who will make the world a better place with designs.

I’ll tell you a story about a young designer who was born on January 17, 1982. This person has been drawing and making things since he was 2. Thinking is not his type. Unless it becomes a might. His father always told him “If you do something, never give up easily. Just try and try, don’t take it rapidly. Always dream big, aim high to reach the sky!! ” Reading Thomas Edison’s biography motivated him to study religiously. Following his footsteps unconsciously. At present, he’s one of the brightest stars at Hong-Ik University Taking up industrial design for his maturity. recently, He has started to spread the wings for a wider world that brings…. Who’s he? Yes! It’s me I’m Kun-woo Yi! A person with an artistic mind with a flexible personality. An energetic, passionate, confident and ambitious morality. Whenever I dream, I make sure that I mean! Although I am a major in industrial design, my love goes to all design disciplines. As are world-class designers versatile at many different design areas, I hope to work on a wide spectrum of design projects. I enjoy looking at my own design works which allow me to start every day with happiness. I believe that is the very value and power of design. I have recently formed a design group called ‘Idealgraphy’ along with my fellow students and some graduates from the Konkuk University, with a hope to show wide opportunities ahead to my juniors in school, as well as to pave the way for them to explore potentials. Idealgraphy has been chosen among design groups sponsored by the Korea Design Foundation. I have great pride and an ambition as a leader of the group which has been actively performing many activities, including exhibitions, competitions and other design projects. I am still young, but always make great efforts to play a role model to those who come after me. This sense of responsibility brought me to apply for the internship program of the World Design Market. As a next generation designer taking a step forward towards dreams, and with a belief that design provides the ground for cultural development, I aim to promote myself as a premium brand in the world stage.

When I was middle school student, I thought what is representative of design prestige of Korea. My answer was nothing. So I determined that I will make prestige brand of Korea. That is why I started study Design. Seoul City released the winner for Hangang Park’s design bench competition on 25th of March. There were 159 ideas summit for this competition during 22nd to 24th of February and 21 designs were selected. For the mass supplies, all the handed design idea has to be made in million won budget limit.
